Church History

BEGINNINGS: It was the realisation of the hostility of modern day Pentecostals towards the Message of the hour, that led to the founding of the Local Christian Assembly. Several signs were given to Peter Chandler at the age of 24 years, that it was time to start a local church where this Message could be given the respect it deserved. He already had a box of Message books from Jeffersonville, sent by Billy Paul Branham. He informed his Pentecostal pastor in April 1978 that he intended to start a church, and on the 17th August 1978 had his first service, with a handful of curious visitors. "Sunset Evangelism" seemed a good name at the time, later on the full meaning emerged. The cold autumn and winter nights of 1978 saw many services where his wife Sister Monica was the only person to preach to, among many empty chairs. This scripture was our banner as we all reached out to the South London area: JOHN 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. Memorable visits were received by preachers like Bro Jenkins and Bro Searle and invaluable support from local ministers in the Message.

By 1980 the church had become about 30 people and a better church location was found. The Message had become more established and disliked by the local Pentecostal churches. Frequent visitations by the Holy Spirit were experienced, especially in 1983 when many people were sealed.
EPHESIANS 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. In 1985 we hosted our first International Convention in Wales. We called it the Welsh Revival … the manifestation and power witnessed there are still spoken of to this day. The mighty inspiration and revelation revealed by the Prophet of Malachi 4 continued to pour into the assembly through both local and international ministries. By 1992, the Lord blessed the assembly with their own building near Brixton in South London, which is used to this day to the Glory of God. Behind the pulpit is a Golden Cross which testifies to the great vision Bro Branham had as a boy…

45-2 Was that what that vision was give me as a little bitty boy out yonder? And I have went West, and there's the Golden Cross of the Gospel shining down and has declared the sign from heaven just exactly. You remember, the Cross was in a panoramic like a--like a pyramid also, built. Could it be that it's the Head part where it's ended and started and here come up to the Headship, like the pyramid come up through Luther, Wesley, Pentecost, and them there... Capping of the stone, could it be that? If that's it, where are we at?

Caleb... There was ten of the spies that come back and said, "Oh, it’s impossible for us to do it. Why," said, "their... more
